"Hello Neighbor" is a campaign game developed by Dynamic Pixels and published by TinyBuild, divided into 3 acts where you need to discover the secret the neighbor is hiding in his basement.

Essentially, in all three acts, your goal will be: enter the neighbor's house, explore, and escape without getting caught. In this review, I will cover the main aspects of the game.

What is the basic premise of Hello Neighbor?

Hello Neighbor puts you in a suspenseful situation where the neighbor can appear behind you at any moment and catch you by surprise, leading you to get scared, run a lot, and hide inside the neighbor's house.

Does the game have a good narrative? Is it engaging?

As a fan of Hello Neighbor, I can say that the narrative is quite unique, with a huge lore behind it. The game's story itself is short, but the mysteries behind it make it very interesting. It's rare to find another game with so many hidden secrets, often requiring research to understand the game's storyline.

What are the main challenges or gameplay mechanics?

The neighbor features an AI that learns from the player's mistakes. If you try to enter a place and get caught, the neighbor will set traps there. If caught again, he will place more traps and cameras. If you find the neighbor too difficult to deal with, you can activate a friendly neighbor mode in the main menu.

Throughout Act 3, you will acquire skills and equipment that will help you disrupt the neighbor's plans.

Is the gameplay intuitive for new players?

Initially, if you have no experience with similar games, horror/stealth games, where you need to explore to discover puzzles, you might find it a bit challenging since Hello Neighbor requires exploration to uncover the areas.

Does the game offer any tutorial or introduction to the mechanics?

Hello Neighbor does not offer a tutorial. You will have to explore and use logic and reasoning to find out where certain items are located.

Are the graphics and soundtrack of good quality?

The graphics are quite beautiful for an indie studio. The game was made in Unreal Engine 4, so some weaker machines may have trouble running it. As for the soundtrack, it's perfectly suited to the suspense and chase atmosphere when the neighbor is after you. The game features various soundtracks for each act.

Does the game have bugs or technical issues that affect the experience?

Bugs were quite frequent at the game's launch, but 99% of them have been fixed. You might encounter a bug here and there, but they are rare. At least in my gameplay, I didn't find any bugs that hindered the player's experience.

Is there any extra content or DLC available for Hello Neighbor?

Currently, there is no extra content or DLC for Hello Neighbor.

How is the replayability of the game? Is it worth playing more than once?

If you want to complete the game 100% without following any tutorial, you will need to replay it. You can jump straight to Act 3, where 90% of the achievements can be unlocked. I recommend replaying it only if you want to complete the achievements; otherwise, there's no need to replay it.

Is the game suitable for all ages or does it have an age rating?

The game is not recommended for children under 10 years old.

Is there any multiplayer mode or is it exclusively single-player?

There is no official multiplayer mode for Hello Neighbor; the game is single-player only.

Does the game support mods or have an active community creating additional content?

Yes, from my research, there are many mods for the game that create new stories or modify the original experience. I will test some later.

How long does it take, on average, to finish the game?

It depends on how you play. If you play calmly without a tutorial, it will probably take around 8-9 hours to complete. However, if you already know the location of some items and how to solve certain puzzles, and play a bit faster, it will take around 4-6 hours.

Is the game's price fair in relation to the content and experience offered?

The game costs $29.99. I don't think it's worth getting at full price, given the "short" storyline. I recommend waiting for a sale. However, if you are a big fan of the game, buy it at the listed price.

Conclusion.

Hello Neighbor is a hide-and-seek experience with an AI that learns from your mistakes. I wouldn't recommend it for children or complete beginners to video games, despite the lack of explicit content.

It's a very engaging experience as you'll constantly be tense, looking for the neighbor and trying to discover his plans. I recommend the game to those looking for something different from the usual or who have previous experience with similar games.
