"Hello Neighbor: Hide and Seek" is a prequel to the original "Hello Neighbor," where it delves deeper into the story of Theodore Peterson, the infamous neighbor.

The narrative revolves around Theodore's children and his tragic past, which ultimately led him to take extreme actions in the first game. In this review, I will cover the main topics of the game.

How does "Hello Neighbor: Hide and Seek" connect to the first game?

The game connects to Theodore’s actions in the first game and what drove him to such extreme behaviors.

As the story unfolds, you will learn more about the neighbor’s past and what influenced him to treat Nick, the protagonist of the first game, the way he did.

Is the gameplay similar to the original?

In some aspects, yes. Regarding the enemy, Aaron takes on the role of the neighbor and tries to catch you throughout the game.

The difference is that he actively hunts you down, while the neighbor in the original is more defensive, only capturing you when you try to invade his property.

Are the puzzles difficult or easy to solve?

They are not hard to solve, but they do require a keen eye for details in the map and finding the items that are also purposefully hidden. If overlooked, they can cause some frustration in completing the mission.

How is the level design and environment?

Very well designed, resembling a cartoon. Its childlike aspect and atmosphere bring a sense of nostalgia, with childhood games that most people have likely played. Each minigame represents a phase of their lives, with the environments reflecting their current emotional states.

Are the graphics comparable to the first game?

Graphically, the game seems less demanding compared to the first one. However, on the official game requirements pages, the recommended hardware to run the game is slightly higher due to the detailed maps.

Is the game’s atmosphere tense and engaging?

Yes. The feeling of Aaron appearing behind you at any moment is thrilling. It’s an adventure game that combines elements of jump scares and chases, with a soundtrack that makes everything more intense.

How long does it take to finish the game?

Considering my playtime and the moments I got stuck, it took me about 7.6 hours to complete the game, which is considered an average time according to HowLongToBeat. However, your actual time may vary greatly depending on your playstyle.

Are there any repetitive elements in the game?

All the minigames are standardized concerning the main objective, only changing the setting and adding some different puzzles in each stage.

Conclusion.

"Hello Neighbor: Hide and Seek" is a prequel to the first game, offering a slightly different gameplay focus compared to the original, with more emphasis on the story rather than puzzles.

For those who liked or loved the original, this game will certainly meet your expectations. But it’s also a unique experience for newcomers who haven’t played the first game, offering a different experience compared to most games on the market.

If you like to try out new adventures and types of games, it’s worth playing. However, the current price of the game on Steam is $29.99. A more viable option here would be to wait for a sale and buy it at a lower price.
